Please note that all teams who are looking to enter a team into the 2023/24 season must attend the AGM. This includes all existing teams as well as any new teams that are looking to join the league.
The agenda has also been posted onto the documents tab on the website.
Please note that the proposal for the new Re-handicapping formula would also involve a slight change to the current handicaps if voted in so please bare this in mind when discussing with your team before submitting you vote on the evening. This has been calculated at a max of 70 start (for illustration purposes) with the lowest players off -25 and highest off 45. This value has been used as it is half the points available on the table less the last black.
Should any captain or team representative not have access to facebook to see the spreadsheet then please let me know ASAP and I can send a copy by email.

2023 AGM & Presentation Date
Date: Monday 19th June 2023 Venue: Walkers (Upstairs) Time: 7pm (TBC)
The date for the AGM and Presentation night has been confirmed as Monday 19th June. The AGM will take place first followed by the presentation straight after.
The agenda for the AGM will be published no later than two weeks before the scheduled date.
All teams who are looking to enter the 2023/24 season must have one representative attend the AGM.
Proposals for Rule Changes 2023/24 Season
During the last 12 months I have had many players within the league provide suggestions to me as to how they feel the league can be improved or if rules should be amended going forward. To give you an idea, here is an example of some of the ideas that have been mentioned to me;
Now is the time for you to liaise with your team and captains and to have a think if there are suggestions or proposals that you would like to put forward.
All proposals for any Rule changes to be voted at the AGM need to be sent in writing by e-mail to the committee no later than Monday 22nd May. All proposed rule changes will need to be seconded to be put forward for discussion and a vote.
The proposals will be published with the AGM agenda no later than two weeks before the scheduled date so teams and captains have time to view and discuss before the AGM.

Congratulations to Mike, Joe and Stuart who are this years Three Man Team champions, capping off an excellent season where their team Alford A also gained promotion to the 1st Division.
Unlucky to James, Mitch and Tyler who were defending the trophy following success in this competition last season but it wasnt to be this time round. They have still had a very successful season with their team Kings Club A winning the Division 1 title, as well as Mitch's success winning the individual handicap and Division 1 player of the year.
If anyone who attended either final would like to add some notes for a match report then feel free to send across.

Individual Merit Final Result

Last night GESM hosted the final of the individual merit and it was Mike Chester, for the fourth time in this completion, who was victorious and lifted the individual merit trophy.
In front a really well attended final, it was Brian who broke first to get the match underway. Following a couple of early safety exchanges, it was Mike who was presented with the first real chance of the match putting together a 34 break, giving himself control of the frame. Mike was able to keep the scoreboard ticking over during the middle part of the frame leading by just over 50 points before Brian responded with a 28 break of his own. As we started the colours Brian needed a couple of snookers but despite his best attempts Mike was able to pick off the colours and take the first frame.
Frame two was probably the scrappiest of the evening with neither player able to put any significant breaks of note together. Once again it was Mike who seemed to take control, mainly because of some excellent match play and safety, which limited Brian’s chances. When Brian did get his couple of chances he wasn’t able to take them as you would normally expect for a player of his quality and once again as we entered the colours, Brian required one snooker. He was given half a chance by Mike who made an error in potting the cueball which meant Brian needed all the remaining balls to win but he couldn’t quite take his chance and again Mike did enough to secure the second frame and put him one away from securing the title.
With his back against the wall, Brian then found his mojo in frame three, with quick fire breaks of 31 and 22 break helping him to a 63-0 lead. The lead was enough to leave Mike requiring snookers with only 59 points remaining on the table with 4 reds left. Mike was able to pull 22 points back on the remaining reds but as Brian potted the yellow that was enough to take the frame and put his first frame of the evening on the board.
In frame four it was Mike who scored first taking a couple of reds with pink and blue respectively. Brian had a good chance to respond but missed a blue to the middle bag which you would expect him to pot 9 times out of 10. After that miss, Mike stepped up his safety and match play, knowing that Brian could be capable of scoring quickly like the previous frame. A large proportion of the reds seemed to congregate together towards the top right pocket with the majority covering each up. As Brian got down to play a red to the middle he caught one of the reds with his hand and this allowed Mike to take a red and clear a couple of others away. Similarly to Frames one and two, Mike had enough of a lead to leave Brian requiring snookers as we started on the colours and despite his best attempts to try and get to a decider, he couldn’t find them and he conceded on the blue to give frame, match and title of individual merit champion to Mike.
Commiserations to Brian, who was looking to win the merit title for the second time but it wasn’t to be for him last night. He will be disappointed but he should be very proud of his efforts. He will be back competing for this title again, make no mistake about it, as he has too much class not to be.
However, huge congratulations to Mike who was appearing in his seventh individual merit final (fourth victory as noted earlier). He showed his quality and experience when it was really needed with some of his matchplay and is this seasons Individual Merit Champion.

The final of the Pairs Handicap took place last night at Kings Club in a match that went down to the pink in the final frame.
The first frame was relatively open with both teams ticking the scoreboard over in the early exchanges. Trailing by 15 points, Jeff then knocked in a timely 29 break for his side which could have been more but he just lost the cueball after potting the blue, subsequently missing the following red. The break put them in the ascendency with just a couple of reds left but Nick & Glynn kept them honest before Jeff & Keith took the blue and pink to take the first frame.
As can often happen in pairs, the match can get very cagey which is what occurred at the start of the second frame thanks to a combination of some excellent safety and players struggling to find any rhythm as time at the table was at a premium. Aside from the cueball going in once, the first red potted was well over 5 minutes into the frame. As it developed it was Nick and Glynn who got a stranglehold of the frame with Glynn putting together a couple of important visits mid frame and as we got the colours they led by 36 points with 27 remaining leaving Keith and Jeff requiring 3 snookers. The successfully got two of them meaning they were just 28 behind but Nick and Glynn got one back and then on the next visit Jeff went in off resulting in a concession.
With that the final went down to a decider and even though it wasn’t free scoring, it was an absorbing watch and you could feel the tension in the room. The first big chances fell to Jeff but uncharacteristically he missed a black off the spot and then in his next visit miss cued as he was stretching for a red leaving the red over the pocket for Nick & Glynn to gleefully take. The scores were level as we got down to the start of the colours thanks to a handy 14 break from Keith with the last couple of reds on the table. The end of the frame had almost everything you’d want to see from a close decider from great safety to missed pots and balls running safe and as we got to the blue the scores were level again. Both Jeff and Keith had similar chances on the blue into the same pocket and both rattled the jaws before Nick converted it from distance. During the safety play the pink had gone safe so a few visits of safety shots followed. Keith then attempted a long range pink which rattled in the jaws leaving Glynn an opportunity he wasn’t going to miss taking the frame, match and 2022/23 Pairs Handicap title for Nick and himself.
You had to feel for Keith and Jeff as whoever had lost that match would have been absolutely gutted with it being so close but an excellent achievement to getting to the final and they should be proud of their effort.
However, huge congratulations to both Nick and Glynn who capped off excellent seasons for the pair as they also helped their team the Hatter to second place in division one with excellent win/loss ratios.

This years team handicap final was between two Division 1 teams that had contrasting seasons and it was high flyers GESM B who capped off an excellent season in beating Monks A.
GESM B took a comanding lead of 101 points after two frames thanks to Adam Waldron and Amir Aslam getting the better of Ste Miller and Keith Owen respectively.
Monks A tried to respond by nominating two very experienced match players in Mike Delaney and Dexter Cook in the second two frames. Dexter, having to give 35 start did his best to get back level with Darryn Waldron but fell 15 points short however sometimes you can tell it's not going to be your night as Mike consistently had bad luck and must have lost count the amount of times he was unfortunate to go in off against Sean Cassidy who in fairness finished his frame very well to help GESM push further ahead.
Trailing by 177 was a thankless task for both Chris and Gordon Ure but they gave it their best shot for both pride and wanting to win their own frame but it was GESM B teams night as (Bryan) Chi Hong Wong and John O'Rourke ensured it was a clean sweep of frames and rounded off victory in style.
It capped off an excellent season for GESM B who after being promoted last season secured the team handicap championship and 3rd place in Division 1.
As for Monks A they were hoping to put the disappointment of relegation behind them and finish on a high but it wasn't to be but they will be in the mix of the promotion battle next season make no mistake about it. Many thanks Pat Wisedale

Congratulations to Mitch who wins the first competition final of the season to cap of a superb personal campaign adding to his Division 1 player of the year award.
Commiserations to John who gave his all this evening with both the first two frames going to a black ball before Mitch jsut had too much in the final two frames. John should be very proud of his achievement of reaching the individual handicap final of which is always an unpredictable and tough competition to go far in.

2022/23 League Results & Stats and Short Summary
Division 1
Congratulations to Kings Club A who have successfully defended their first division title from last season securing the championship with a 6-1 victory in their last league game away at Alford D. A strong second half of the season some them win 10 of their 11 matches racking up 54 points in the process including 5-2 victories over both The Hatter and GESM B who were 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Going into the final game Kings led GESM B by one point but having won one game less so they knew that if GESM B won one more frame than them on the evening then they would relinquish their title. It wasn’t to be however for GESM B as they just fell short losing at home 3-4 to Irlam Steel. This result meant that The Hatter were able to steel second place from GESM B thanks to a 6-1 win away to Deaf Social A courtesy of a better win/loss ratio.
At the foot of the table, the relegated teams were already confirmed ahead of the last week of fixtures so it was just a case of where each team would finish between Deaf Social A, Monks A & GESM A. Unfortunately for each team, they all had results that effectively summed up their season with both Deaf A & Monks A falling to 1-6 defeats and GESM A being whitewashed at Irlam Catholic 0-7.
Having just missed out on the title GESM B still have a chance of making it a season to remember as they have a Team Handicap Final to look forward to on Tuesday 4th April against Monks A who themselves will be looking to put the disappointment of relegation behind them to pick up some silverware and finish on a high.
Two players from Kings Club A picked up the personal awards with Mitch McJay (18 wins) taking player of the year award and Tyler Whittaker (68 Break) taking the high break prize.

Division 2
In Division 2, two of the three promoted teams were able to bounce back straight to the first division at the first time of asking taking the top two places. It was Penketh Cons C who were crowned champions with a superb end to the season winning their last 6 matches on the bounce including back to back 6-1 victories to end the season. An excellent achievement considering they were playing from a new venue this season on a different night.
Runners up Kings Club C were the other team to come straight back up thanks to some excellent form towards the end of the season which saw them score 35 points from their last 6 matches to secure promotion and leapfrog a few teams beneath them.
The third and final place for promotion went down to the final week and it was Alford A who clinched their spot thanks to a 6-1 victory at home to Woolston B. Having narrowly missed out on promotion last season they will be pleased to have got over the line but were kept honest by St Benedicts who had an outside chance coming up themselves up to the alst round of matches.
Kings Club B will be disappointed with the wooden spoon prize but just 3 wins since Christmas has not helped their cause and they will be looking to put this season behind them and turn over a new leaf next season.
The personal awards for Division 2 were both won by Nick Cheng of Kings Club C who managed to get 17 wins to his tally and a high break of 43 was enough to beat his fellow players to take that prize as well.

The meeting is primarily for all outstanding fees from the first half of the season to be paid. Please see the post below from Wednesday 14th December confirming all outstanding fees for each team that are due by Monday at the latest.
For those teams who have now paid everything outstanding for the first half of the season they do not have to attend the meeting but please can you confirm to Pat, Graham or Danny that these have been paid especially if they have been bank transferred so we can confirm receipt.
Should any funds be outstanding after Monday then subsequent teams and players will be suspended until the league receives these funds.

We have been notified earlier this week that Bridgewater club in Lymm is due to close in the near future. With this being the case, Bridgewater A will be changing venue to Grappenhall & Thelwall British Legion and will be known as GTBL on the website and fixtures going forward.

Warrington Rugby Fixtures 2023 Season
Seeing as though we are getting to the business end of the Rugby League World Cup, I thought now would be a good time to put this post out. The fixtures for next seasons Super League matches were released late last week and the following dates clash with our schedule snooker season and are both being televised live on Sky.

I know many players within the league attend the games or will be keen to watch them so I am just putting this post out now so that teams who know they will be short or missing a number of players on these dates are aware and can look at re-arranging games if required.
With there not being many weeks left in the season after these dates please consider bringing any games forward if needed as this will give you more options to find a new date if necessary. It will not be acceptable to cancel matches on these dates at short notice due to people wanting to watch or go to the rugby as you have plenty of notice now to change the dates should your team be impacted by this.
Please be aware of any proposed competition dates on the Events Calendar when looking to rearrange any matches should you need.

The October Monthly meeting is scheduled to take place tomorrow at Walkers and will start at 19:30 prompt.
Please note Graham is on holiday this week so is unable to make the meeting. Danny and myself will be at the meeting to collect any outstanding payments (team registration or competition fees) however we won't be able to provide a receipt so if you would prefer to pay these by bank transfer then we would encourage this over cash as payments are due this week.

Brian Timmis (Formerly St Joseph's)
The league is saddened to hear of the recent passing of Brian Timmis after a long battle with Cancer.
Brian played within the league for the St Jospeh's up until a few years ago when they were a part of the league.
Our thoughts are with his family and close friends at this time.

Should any pairs need to add a reserve, they must notify either Danny Shaw or Pat Wisedale prior to Monday.
Furthermore, should anyone need to rearrange their match then they must provide their opponents with at least 48 hours notice and notify the competition secretary Danny Shaw or Pat Wisedale ahead of the game. A reminder to all team captains/representatives September's monthly meeting is to take place this coming Monday at Walkers starting at 19:30 prompt.
The following are required by Monday; £60 Team Registration Fee - Should you require the bank details to make the payment then please contact either Graham or Pat for the details. Otherwise this can be paid in cash at the meeting. Additional Player Registrations - You can still add players to your squad for the 2022/23 season free of charge until Monday. Any additional signings after the meeting on Monday will incur the standard £3.00 fee. Competition Entries - Final entries for all competitions will be accepted at the meeting on Monday. We are due to sort all the draws for the pre-lims and first round matches in October so require the total numbers for each competition this week.
Unfortunately, it is unlikely I am going to be able to attend the meeting this Monday however both Graham & Danny will be in attendance. However should you require anything then please don't hesitate to contact me.
